I love teaching. Having the opportunity to inspire other people to dance, to see the beauty in the art form you love - is a wonderful place to be. Needless to say it is also a commitment that comes with great responsibility, and need for constant retrospection, self-analysis and sensitivity.
I try to stay cognizant of various aspects of approaching the art that are personally important to me - secularism, humanity and gender sensitivity - while in the classroom. Guiding a dancer to develop and fine-tune their skills of learning art, is as important to me as the skills IN art themselves. Once you set them up for the former, the latter follows. I also believe that the best of learning happens in a non-hierarchical and equal environment, which is what I strive to inspire in the dance studio.
Teaching of art cannot be in a one-size-fits all environment. Therefore, my most preferred mode of long-term engagement with a student is one-to-one classes. I also do teach workshops, intensives and tailor-made courses for the shorter formats.
My most recent offering is an effort through The Study Room, envisioned as a space to bring traditional learning principles into a modern mind space. The Study Room offers short term learning modules which stress on process-based, rather then product-based learning.
If you wish to engage in serious learning of any aspect of the art form, or organise a workshop/intensive, we would be very happy to hear from you.
